The Korean American Community Foundation (KACF) is committing $1.8 million in grants and capacity-building support for nonprofits advancing the economic security of low-income Korean and Asian Americans.

This investment will support 35 organizations across the United States with a track record of working with hard-to-reach groups within the Korean American community. They make up KACF’s largest national cohort of grantee partners to date, and are making an impact at the local, regional, and national levels through direct services, advocacy and coalition-building efforts, and research studies that close data gaps on community needs.

“For over two decades, we’ve been committed to expanding the philanthropic pie for our community, and we’re proud to be making bold investments in these high-impact organizations,” said KACF President and Co-Founder Kyung B. Yoon. “Equally important, we want to help break down silos of geography and foster more connections, conversations, collaboration between communities to more effectively move the needle on issues of economic insecurity.”

Funding for the grantee partners in the Washington metropolitan area was supported through the efforts of KACF’s Philanthropic Network of Washington DC (PNDC), a group of donors who are leading local efforts to grow a culture of giving among Korean Americans in support of the Foundation’s mission.

“It is exciting to be playing a role in supporting KACF’s first grants to nonprofits in the DC metro area. We’re proud to be part of the Foundation’s work to transform how Korean Americans give back to their communities,” said Yekyu Kim, a long-time supporter of KACF who is a member of the PNDC Steering Committee.

KACF is the first and largest organization in the U.S. dedicated to mobilizing Korean American philanthropy. By the end of this year, the Foundation will have distributed $14 million in cumulative grantmaking since its inception in 2002.
